Art for Everyone: WIP
For this project, I wanted to create art that anyone can access, for those who don’t seek art, to see it. I wanted to make it pertinent to those who will see it, mostly college students. I wanted it to be intriguing, to make them think, but not too hard. For this I chose to work with the euphemisms we use as college students, bringing the way we speak to life in a literal sense. For college students to see this without effort, I decided to make them into stickers that can be posted and seen anywhere and everywhere. I have yet to print the designs onto the paper, which I just ordered on amazon. The completed designs include the euphemisms “The Devil’s Lettuce”, “Salty”, “Turn up”, “Batshit crazy”, and “Smoking Pot”, all centered around the jargon of university kids. Intended to create “ah ha” moments, the designs create a playful tone around the ridiculous things we sometimes say, and create an easily understood art piece that all can enjoy. I plan on cutting out these stickers from the larger sheet with the laser cutter, and print them in plain black ink. I want to not only stick them across boulder myself, but also give them to my classmates, to continue to post them across the town. I love the idea of my audience being able to be a part of my piece, so I think its pertinent that Art for Everyone allows them to post the stickers wherever they like, including them as an artist’s assistant.
