Art for Everyone Final Project
While my hidden meanings weren’t quite as easy as I thought to decode, I really love how this project came together. After laser cutting the final designs out of sticker paper, I got to give them out to friends, classmates, and family. I loved how inclusive my audience felt in my art, and was stoked when they put them on their computers and water bottles for all to see. A big part of this project was the notion of bringing art to everyone, even those who don’t seek it; I feel, even if small scale, this project did just that. By plastering the stickers anywhere and everywhere, my audience helped spread not just my own art, but art as a whole, adding a little bit to the visual landscape of daily life. I also kinda enjoyed the fact that not everyone understood their underlying euphemisms right away, adding a layer of complexity and curiosity to the stickers. I also loved that each person could decode some, but usually not all, and which ones they were able to understand varied, shining light on the varying perspectives we all hold when we view art. I was thrilled with others’ reactions to them and am now inspired to make more stickers with a variety of my designs. My original idea included creating stencils, and I’d still like to explore this more with a few of my more basic designs, to bring the project even further into the art space. I am excited to explore further into public art on both small and large scales.
