Always Watching WIP
What if the screens we stare at for hours every day, were looking back at us? Well, they are. As consumers of modern technology, we sign over our rights to privacy, our data constantly being sold away, yet invisible to the public. Always Watching will allow the audience to actually feel the gaze on us that our devices hold so secretly. As eyes move across a static screen projected onto old tube tvs and crt monitors, the audience will feel the eyes watching them, where our reality is much more sneaky. In creating this idea, I wondered how I could symbolize our technology listening in as well, yet while playing with sound components, none seemed suitable. My current opinion is that the lack of sound adds to the secrecy of the surveillance. A draw back I have discovered during this process arose in the obtaining of old tv screens, which cannot be donated or thrown away, but must be paid to be recycled, getting locked in a system of recycling the public does not have access too. Some craigslist ads and facebook marketplaces have been searched and reply hopefully soon to come. In the meantime, with a quick reminder on tracking in After Effects, the gifs were fun to make, and linked illustrator files made it easy to change the colors and keep the tracking the same. It makes you wonder if Adobe Creative suite is listening in too. I bet they hear a lot of people swearing at their computers.
